Turramurra

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involved the transformation of a classic Californian bungalow on Sydney’s North Shore. Situated on a quiet, tree-lined street, the home was initially considered for demolition due to its outdated and impractical layout. With no central hallway and poor circulation between rooms, access to spaces like bedrooms required passing through areas such as the kitchen.

However, as time passed, the owners developed a deep appreciation for the home's character. From its double-brick construction and original windows to the understated detailing typical of early 20th-century architecture.

The renovation was designed to retain the charm and heritage of the original 1916 structure while enhancing its functionality for modern family living. Key upgrades included a full reconfiguration of the ground floor layout, the addition of a second storey, and the creation of a new formal entry featuring a spacious foyer and portico. The upper level provided space for a master suite, children’s study, and an additional bathroom.

The design approach remained sympathetic to the home's original style and the surrounding streetscape, with traditional elements carefully integrated throughout the new works. The result is a refined, timeless home that blends seamlessly into the neighbourhood  as if it has always been there.
