Fairlight
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project involved the renovation and extension of a single-storey Federation-style detached cottage for a recently retired couple seeking a comfortable, low-maintenance home tailored to their lifestyle.
Situated on a generously sized block in Fairlight with wide rear lane access, the home underwent a carefully planned transformation that balanced heritage preservation with modern functionality. The original front façade and period rooms were thoughtfully restored to retain their charm and character, while the rear of the home was reimagined with a contemporary extension, a new upper-level addition, and a completely updated internal layout.
The first-floor addition was designed to maximise space and enhance liveability, featuring clean, modern lines that respectfully contrast with the traditional detailing at the front of the home. Large windows and an open-plan design ensure the rear living areas are filled with natural light, creating bright, airy, and inviting spaces.
The backyard was fully reconfigured to include a new in-ground swimming pool and landscaped outdoor area, ideal for both relaxation and entertaining. A new detached garage and studio were also constructed at the rear of the property, taking full advantage of the wide rear lane. This versatile addition offers flexible space for guests, creative pursuits, or future resale value, while maintaining a strong connection with the newly landscaped garden and pool.
The result is a timeless, well-balanced home that honours its Federation heritage at the front, while embracing a modern, practical lifestyle at the rear a perfect blend of old and new, designed for the next chapter in life.
