PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involved the renovation and extension of a single-level, semi-detached Federation-style home. The works included restoring the original street-facing façade and internal rooms at the front of the house, with all heritage features retained and reinstated in line with period detailing.

A major component of the build was a new rear extension and the addition of a first floor, designed with a modern architectural style to contrast with the existing structure while maintaining overall cohesion.

One of the key site challenges was its south and west orientation, which required careful planning and execution to ensure adequate natural light could reach the interior living areas. Shading solutions were also incorporated into the rear façade and outdoor deck to manage afternoon sun exposure.

Construction involved a mix of restoration and new-build techniques, with the existing Federation elements carefully preserved, including brickwork, cornices, and timber features. The rear and upper additions were built using modern materials and detailing, resulting in open, light-filled spaces that meet contemporary living standards while respecting the character of the original home.
